Course Evaluations

Overall, I thought the class was interesting. I enjoyed having the time in class to work on our writings which helped alot. Having you there to help us I thought was really good and helpful. Also, doing the advertisement was a different and fun experience. This was one of my better classes of the semester because it was more hands on then others where youy sit around and just listen to the instructor which is boring. I really thought this class will help me in my writing in the future. I've learned how important proofreading is and the importance of having reliable sources when writing a research paper. I really enjoyed this class overall.

Research Proposal

I plan on starting my proposal by explaining why I enjoy wanted to write about this topic. I am very interested in sports and I also feel that people need help in the healing process after not only national tragedies but also tragedies that happens within a community. One local tragedy that happened just a year ago was the Bluffton University bus crash that happened last March. I live 30 minutes from Bluffton and have friends that go there. I feel that the tragedy there as well as treagedies such as 9/11, Virginia Tech shooting, and Hurrican Katrina are all tragedies that everybody was affected by. I want to write about how sports is a very effective way to help people heal. Sporting events bring not only local communities together but sometimes a nation. After 9/11 when baseball started back up it brought people together to begin the healing process and help people to begin to move on with life again.

Research project

I plan on writing my research paper on how the important role that sports plays in the healing process after tragedies. I will start by grabbing the attention of the audience in my into by talking about some of the tragedies that my paper will pertain to. I will be talking about 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, the Bluffton bus crash, and the Virginia Tech shooting. I feel that this topic is controversial because of the fact that many do not believe or understand how important sports is to people in heling them heal. The fact that people come together at games to unite and remember and honor those who were lost in the tragedies. Sports also gives those people a chance to get away from reality if only for a few hours. This helps them heal because they start to understand that's it's ok to laugh and have fun again. In my research paper I have quotes from people who feel the same way. I plan on giving other solutions to helping people heal in which I will agrue that sports is the most effective way for people to get on with life or at least get away from reality for a bit.

Hass and Facebook

I thought that this article was very interesting because I have facebook and I have used it in the past to set up parties that I was having. Even though I was 21 at the time I never would have thought that cops would be looking on facebook to find out where the parties were at. I also agree with Hass when she talks about how facebook is almost a way of stalking people. I have many people on my friends list that I barely know but I add them because when I get bored I look at pictures that people have put up which now makes me feel like I am creeping on them. It seems to me that people want the best of both worlds. They want people to be able to see their profile but don't feel that everybody shoould be able to. There is a way that you can keep your profile private when you go to the settings menu. So, in my opinion, I think that the cops are smart for looking on facebook because it makes their job earier. If people don't want them to see it then they should set their privacy.

Research Paper

When thinking about how to go about writing this research paper the first thing i thought about was what my topic was going to be. I wanted to do something that I found interesting because I find it very hard to write about topics that don't interest me. Therefore, I decided to write about football and it's popluartity in America. The first thing I need to do is find sources that are going to be helpful in writing my research paper. I want to first five a history of football in America, when it started, and then go into how it became popular. One thing that might be difficult throughout the process is finding sources from credible sources. I know for a fact that finding book sources about how football has become popular in America might be tough to find and therefore I will have to rely on journal and magazine articles.

Effective Website

What makes an effective website to me is a website that has the information I am looking for on the front page. When I go to a website most of the time I'm looking for something specific. I really good example of an effective website is the ESPN website. It gives current information and gives you the opportunity to go to any sport or any team you would be looking for. They make it easy to find what sport or team you are looking for. It clearly gives you the information you need which makes it an effective website. You can go there to find out the latest and breaking new information in dealing with sports. That's why I see the ESPN website as a very effective website.

After reading this article I came to realize how important texts is in advertisements. While in some ads you don't need alot of texts because you can just give the important information that is needed. However, sometimes you need to gain the audiences attention and therefore, need to have texts that will grab their attention. Before reading this article, I thought that the image that you have in your ad was always the most important part of the ad but now I realize how important text can be.

Peer Review

Last week we did some peer reviews petaining to our advertisements which really seemed to help. It was nice to go around and see other people's advertisements and what their thinking behind their ads were. I felt that it really helped me get a sense as to what I wanted to do and how I wanted to go about my advertisement. I also felt that having the photoshop people come in and explain to us how to use the software really helped. I'm very confident that without their help this would have been a very tough assignment. But, with them, it wasn't bad at all.

Peer Evaluations

Last week we did some peer evaluating within our groups. We took a look at our first assignment which was a paper about how technology and how it has evolved throughout our lives. I found that working within our groups really helped me personally because I found it very useful to have others looking at my paper. I found that when others read my paper they saw mistakes that I didn't. They also gave me good ideas as to how to make the paper better. I find it hard to proof read my own paper because sometimes when it makes sense to me it sometimes doesnt make sense to the audience that is reading it. It helps me out when others can ask questions about what something is suppose to mean. I can then re-do the part of the paper that may be confusing to others and hopefully re-word it to give it a better understanding. I also enjoyed having more than one person read my paper. Of course having one person read it is better than having nobody read it but with us having 4 people to a group only helps out the peer evaluation days.

Klass Article

After reading the Klass article I found it to be true. Anytime you go to see the doctor or you have to go to the hospital, it seems that the doctors are talking in a different to each other. I've been in te hopsital a few times having ro stay over night ateast 3 diferent times and when the doctor would come in and check up on me, they would talk to each other using expressions instead of talking in a way that I could understand. I also agree with Klass in the fact that doctos use baseball terms. I've seen it on television shows when they talk about throwing a perfect game which means you didn't lose any patients that day/night. I also think that using this type of language when around the patient can be positive and negative. I think it is negative in the fact that it doesn't help the patient understand what is wrong and can frustrate them. On the other, hand if doctors do not use the medical language in certain situations, the patient could become worked up over nothing. For example, if doctors want to run some check-ups on some illnesses just as a precaution and they tell the patient but he misinterprets it as something more serious, then that gets the patient worked up over nothing.
